Among the Post-70s contemporary artists in China, Huang Yuxing is an artist who is loyal to himself and advocates personal experience. His academic background has never restricted his conceptual expression, and his art has never been influenced by flashy pop culture. Since the beginning of the millennium, Huang Yuxing's style has undergone many changes, from 'Diary', 'Life History In Change', 'Light', To 'Water', 'Bubble' And 'Treasure' series. He has been exploring the relationship between individual life and the universe, as well as the uncontrollability of time and space.
Untitled (Lot 1102) belongs to the further excavation of the 'Treasure' series in Huang Yuxing's recent creation. Similar to the works of 'Gemstones, Earth and Asteroids' in the same period, these works focus on showing the physical structure of crystals, and then explore the story of life and the origin of the universe. In the picture, a huge oval crystal occupies most of the space. It seems that it is expanding under the joint work of external and internal forces. It is intended to break through the confinement of edges and frames. It cannot help but remind people of human cells, or the mother uterus that breeds life. Here, instead of presenting the fluorescent color he is used to, the artist reduces the lightness and purity of the color and creates a mysterious and quiet atmosphere with a large area of dark purple tones. Through the sharp contrast between the inside and the outside, it forms a potential of mutual invasion and penetration, and finally reveals a kind of original state of human beings and the initial state of the universe in the limited space.
Firefly (Lot 1104), created in 2008, is a representative work of node significance in Huang Yuxing's 'changed life history' series. This stage is an important transition period for Huang Yuxing. At this time, artists gradually get rid of the misappropriation and reference of images in early paintings, and rely more on their feelings of life and inner emotions to create. With regard to the original intention of this series of creations, Huang Yuxing said: 'every individual of human beings, as a living creature, has been endlessly changed by aging, estrus, disease, desire, and the great forces of social change and nature since birth, and has always reflected physiological toughness.' As artists are committed to expressing the uncertainty of life, the 'history of life' series is shrouded in a cold and fatalistic atmosphere as a whole.
Firefly (Lot 1104) is mainly dark and gray. In the endless darkness and weak moonlight of the full moon night, various buildings in the City show a bleak silhouette. The interior of the building is dark without light source, implying the decline of the city and the lack of human nature. Above the triangular spire hangs a round of yellow full moon, bright and dazzling. It seems to jump abruptly in the dull and depressing scene, echoing with the scattered fireflies wandering in the shadow, bringing a warm glimmer to the cold city. On the Bank of the river in the foreground, several fuzzy human bodies overlap each other, almost unrecognizable except for the bones of the feet. During this period, Huang Yuxing used a lot of anatomical and physiological methods to describe the human body. His purpose was to separate the cultural and social attributes attached to 'people', and then restore the former to a soft and fragile pure 'flesh' to face a different objective world. In order to present the spiritual characteristics of this out of control world, Huang Yuxing creates a water ink like halo and flowing picture effect with a thin coating of propylene, rendering a dark and depressing atmosphere, and then depicts the moon and fireflies with a thick yellow paint, creating a strong visual contrast, which implies the absurdity of the current situation of the times, the anxiety and anxiety of individual emotions, and the vulnerability and helplessness of 'people' due to the continuous tearing of the huge tension between the two.
